Gibson ES 175D (Severe Damage) – Restoration
Before

After
This vintage Gibson ES175D sustained severe damage to the back of the guitar. Bracing on the inside had to be repaired as well as support patches to hold the back of the guitar in place so that original contour and profile could be restored. The body required much body work, binding had to be repaired, inside purfling had to be re-enforced, etc. The original yellow & black burst had to be sacrificed for a solid black finish. When the repairs were finished, the back received several coats of sanding sealer, 5 coats of black nitro cellulose lacquer and 2 coats of clear Nitro cellulose, then sanded, buffed and polished as shown. This guitar is now back out earning money for the owner who couldn’t be more pleased with the restoration.
